Quainton
The focus of the work at Quainton was the cleaning of the Dormer Monuments and reducing the levels of damp in the tower. These immense marble structures had been recently attributed to the highly influential sculptor Rysbrack and were suffereing moisture related damage.
The work consisted of the taking down, cleaning and removing the iron from the two monuments. The sheer scale of the monuments required a meticulous approach, careful planning and forethought. Both monuments were disassembled, cleaned, repaired and rebuilt. The Strachey team also undertook several educational sessions with local groups including children from the local school. These were highly successful.
